Club History

Aberystwyth Rifle & Pistol Club goes back to the days of the Home Guard , it was formed by Sqd Leader J. Raw-Rees when the Home Guard was decommisioned to allow the practice of shooting to continue, The club went by the name of Aberystwyth Home Guard Rifle Club and was housed in the Old drill hall located near Aber town centre where the Home Guard used to practice Prone rifle shooting.

In 1966 the club was moved to its present location in a small old quarry at Penglan Owen Farm, a mile or so from Aberystwyth town.

Just before the pistol ban in 1997 the club was a thriving club with nearly 80 members , but sadly like so many clubs across the country, this declined in the late 1990`s to the minimum membership that the Home office required to keep the club going.

Now on the up with more people taking a keen interest in target shooting sports, we are now 25 members and growing. Albeit a small club compared to many, but a very freindly and active club.
